Viewing Charts & Trends
The Trends & Analysis page is where you dig into your parameter history. Visualize any parameter over time, overlay dosing and water change events, filter by data source, and export readings.
Getting to the Charts Page
There are two ways to open the Trends & Analysis page:
- From the sidebar — Click Parameters in the navigation to open the full Trends & Analysis page.
- From the Dashboard — Click the Details button on the Parameter Trends card to jump directly to the parameter you were viewing.
Page Layout
The page is split into three main areas: category & parameter selection at the top, the interactive chart in the middle, and a data table below.
Category & Parameter Tabs
Pick a category (Core, Nutrients, Major Elements, Minor Elements, Pollutants), then select the specific parameter you want to view. The chart and table update instantly.
Reference Info Card
Shows the target value, acceptable range (warning min/max), your latest reading, and total data points for the selected parameter.
Interactive Chart
A line chart showing your readings over time, with dashed reference lines for your target and warning boundaries. Hover over any point to see the exact value, date, and source.
Data Table
A paginated table listing every reading for the parameter. Each row shows the date, source, value, in-range status, and an edit button to correct readings.
Parameter Categories
Parameters are organized into five categories. Core Parameters come from your manual tests, while the remaining categories are populated primarily by ICP lab results.
Core Parameters
Alkalinity, Calcium, Magnesium, Salinity, pH, Temperature
Nutrients
Nitrate, Phosphate, Nitrite, Ammonium, Phosphorus
Major Elements
Chloride, Sodium, Sulfur, Potassium, Bromine, Strontium, Boron, Fluorine
Minor Elements
Lithium, Silicon, Iodine, Barium, Molybdenum, Nickel, Rubidium, Manganese, and more
Pollutants
Aluminum, Antimony, Lead, Cadmium, Titanium, Tin, and more
Time Range
Use the time range buttons above the chart to zoom in or out. The default view is 1M (one month).
Source Filtering
When a parameter has data from multiple sources (for example, manual Salifert tests and ICP results), a filter panel appears below the time range buttons. Use the checkboxes to show or hide specific sources.
How source filtering works
- Only sources that actually have data for the current parameter are shown — you won't see an "Apex" checkbox on Alkalinity since Apex doesn't measure that.
- Toggling a source affects both the chart line and the data table below it.
- Manual readings, ICP test results, and Apex controller data all merge onto the same chart line, sorted by date.
Tip: If your ICP results look like outliers compared to your test kit readings, try toggling sources off individually to isolate each dataset and spot calibration differences.
Reference Lines
The chart displays three dashed reference lines based on your tank's parameter targets. If you've set custom targets for the selected tank, those values are used; otherwise, the system defaults apply.
The Y-axis automatically scales to include both your reference lines and your data, with a small margin so no points are clipped at the edges.
Action Overlays
One of the most powerful features of the charts page is the ability to overlay maintenance events directly on the trend line. This lets you see cause-and-effect — did alkalinity rise after that dosing change?
Dosing Events
Shown as orange dashed vertical lines. Only dosing actions that are linked to the currently selected parameter appear. Toggle with the Dosing button above the chart. Hover over the orange marker to see the supplement name, amount, and timing.
Water Changes
Shown as cyan dashed vertical lines with a diamond marker. Toggle with the Water Changes button. Click the gear icon next to it to configure which parameters show water change lines by default — nitrate and phosphate are enabled out of the box since they're most affected by water changes.
Tip: Enable both dosing and water change overlays at the same time to get the complete picture. If you see a drop in nitrate right after a water change, that's your water changes doing their job.
Chart Tooltips
Hover over any data point on the chart to see detailed information:
- Full date and time of the reading
- Parameter value with units
- Data source (test kit brand, ICP lab name, or Apex)
- Original unit for converted values (e.g., ICP salinity shows the original PSU reading)
Action marker tooltips show the event type, details (supplement name, water change volume), and how long ago it occurred.
Data Table
Below the chart, a paginated table lists every individual reading for the selected parameter. This is where you can review, edit, or jump to specific dates.
Table columns
- Date — When the reading was recorded
- Source — The test kit, ICP lab, or controller that produced the reading
- Value — The measured value with units
- Status — In Range or Out of Range based on your targets
- Actions — Edit button to correct a reading
Jump to Date
Click the calendar icon next to the pagination controls to open a date picker. Select a date and the table will jump to the page containing entries nearest to that date.
Exporting Data
You can export your parameter readings from the Trends & Analysis page using the export button.
Export options
- CSV — Spreadsheet-friendly format. Open in Excel, Google Sheets, or any data tool.
- JSON — Raw data format for programmatic use or backup.
You can optionally set a date range to export only a subset of your data.
